Target Audience
This activity is designed to meet the needs of physicians, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, and registered dietitians interested in lipid management.

Statement of Need
The Annual Scientific Sessions of the NLA will present scientific updates and clinical management strategies designed to advance the professional development of NLA members and promote improvements in patient care.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Prioritize lipid management strategies based on type of dyslipidemia, co-morbidities, and presence of clinically evident atherosclerotic disease.
  • Describe the role of HDL cholesterol in atherogenesis and the development of effective HDL therapies.
  • Assess the clinical utility of current and novel risk assessment strategies for coronary artery disease.
  • Summarize the available data on the potential utility of novel pharmacotherapy for the management of dyslipidemia.
  • Employ basic diet counseling skills for resistant patients with metabolic syndrome.
  • Discuss prevention and treatment strategies for special populations.

Physicians
The National Lipid Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The National Lipid Association designates this educational activity for a maximum of 16.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

Physician Assistants
AAPA accepts Category I credit from AOACCME, Prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA PRA Category I CreditTM from organizations accredited by ACCME.

CE credit provided by the Institute for Continuing Healthcare Education

Nurses
The Institute for Continuing Healthcare Education is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

This activity offers 16.5 contact hours to participating nurses. This credit may be applied toward licensure requirements in those states that recognize American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (ANCC-COA) accredited providers. Accreditation applies solely to educational activities and does not imply approval or endorsement of any commercial product by the ANCC-COA.

Dietitians
This program is cosponsored by the Institute for Continuing Healthcare Education and the National Lipid Association. The Institute for Continuing Healthcare Education, provider number IN003 is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) from March 28, 2007 to March 27, 2011. Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 17 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this Level 2 program. Continuing Professional Education Provider Accreditation does not constitute endorsement by the CDR of a provider, program, or materials.

Pharmacists
This program is cosponsored by the Institute for Continuing Healthcare Education and the National Lipid Association. The Institute for Continuing Healthcare Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This program is acceptable for 16.5 hours (1.65 CEU) of continuing education credit in states that recognize ACPE-accredited providers (ACPE ID # 781-999-08-022-L01-P).

Criteria for Success
Certificates of completion will be awarded based on the participant's attendance, completion of registration for credit form and evaluation form, and will be mailed within 4 to 6 weeks after the program. Please see the Meeting Registration form for pricing information.

Program Format
This educational activity is composed of didactic lectures with PowerPoint presentations and specialty workshops. There will be ample time for questions and answers and attendee participation is highly encouraged.
