Conference Update from the Southeast Lipid Association

We have received a few calls and e-mails regarding the status of the 11th Annual Scientific Forum in Hilton Head 2008. Our conference is on schedule as planned.

Right now as of 8:00 a.m. EST, Tropical Storm Fay is located near Cape Canaveral, Florida. Fay is drifting northward at just 5 mph. This motion is expected to continue today, allowing the center to move back over the Atlantic Ocean. A turn to the northwest is expected tonight or Thursday with a potential third Florida landfall between Daytona Beach and St. Augustine.

The NLA staff is tracking the storm, and updates will be readily available online at www.lipid.org. We are going to have an amazing conference, and we look forward to seeing everyone.

Please call the NLA office with any questions at 904-998-0854.

Welcome

Make plans now to join us for the 11th Annual Scientific Forum of the Southeast Lipid Association, which is being held August 22-24, 2008, at the Westin Hilton Head resort in Hilton Head, South Carolina. As our chapter of the National Lipid Association was the first to be established, we are now entering our second decade of leadership in the field of Clinical Lipidology. Come help us celebrate this tremendous achievement.

Our branch of medical science is always changing, and so our meeting theme, ‘Looking Beyond Current Therapeutics,’ captures our spirit of exploration. We'll bring you up to speed on the latest clinical trials, take an in-depth look at the relationship between atherosclerosis and diet, and examine different models of risk assessment. We'll also bring you new insights about lipid management from pharmacologic and lifestyle approaches. Later on Saturday, you can select your own program as we are offering two tracks of presentations, one focusing on science and research, the other on clinical and practical applications.

In addition to the main program, this meeting will also feature the Masters in Lipidology Course, which is especially popular for those preparing for certification by the ACCL or ABCL, as well as the Lipid Management Training Course and the Lipid Clinic Operations and Development Course, designed for those professionals who are building a lipid-focused practice.

There is so much to do and see at Hilton Head, and this location is always a hit with families. The late days of summer will make the seaside a memorable place to be. Speaking of memories, the Saturday night President's Dinner and Dance is a great way to spend an evening of fun and music you won't soon forget. This is a challenging and forward-looking program designed to restore your energy and give you new tools to achieve better outcomes in patient care. We look forward to seeing you at Hilton Head. Register to attend today and pack your beach sandals.
