SELA's latest regional education program was held June 29, 2001 in conjunction with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Meeting in Orlando, Florida. The meeting drew an overwhelming and supportive audience of more than 700 participants to hear Dr. John Guyton, SELA's immediate Past President, and Dr. Ronald Goldberg, SELA Board member, present the notable features of the newly released National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III Guidelines. An excellent synthesis of the Guidelines in the presentation was accompanied by a lively discussion of the implications and applications in the care of patients.

In addition to sponsoring and hosting the SELA Annual Scientific Forum, SELA's goal is to offer educational opportunities for multidisciplinary teams that include physicians, nurses, pharmacists, certified diabetes educators, exercise physiologists, health educators and the multidisciplinary members and potential members in the Southeast United States.

This year SELA will also present three regional symposia in concert with the Southern Medical Association. Information about upcoming symposia can be found in the calendar section of the newsletter and on our website www.lipid.org.

SELA wishes to thank Dupont Pharmaceutical for an unrestricted educational grant given to offset the costs of this program.
