2002 Meeting HighlightsClinicians and physicians alike were led by fife and drum down the cobblestone streets of history at this year's Scientific Forum in Williamsburg, Virginia. The 2002 Scientific Forum, "From Revolution to Evolution... Moving Beyond the Guidelines", was a successful meeting that offered scientific sessions, workshops and an opportunity to network and exchange ideas with other professionals in the field. This meeting also gave members an opportunity to shake up some excitement on roller coasters at Busch Gardens or mix up some family fun and history by taking in the sights of historical Williamsburg after the sessions concluded. Historical tours and breathtaking roller coasters weren't the only highlights of this year's Scientific Forum. Drs. James McKenney and Frank Zieve, course directors for the meeting, planned a weekend that covered hot topics in the world of lipids. The first day of the forum included breakfast with the exhibitors, followed by sessions about fad diets, new lipid drugs, CHD risk assessment and treatment, and cardiology treatment in large practices. The sessions closed with the controversial issue of the use of extended lipoprotein profile, debated by Drs. Ayers and Hunninghake. The afternoon was free to spend at leisure, followed by an evening dinner with live entertainment, including music and magic tricks, and concluded with Dr. Lopes-Virella's personal presentation, "Clinician and Scientist: Oil and Vinegar or a Salad Dressing". The following day included breakfast with exhibitors and concluded with a round of workshops, including Dr. Zieve's "Zebras: Managing the Extreme Lipid Cases" among others. This Scientific Forum couldn't have been a success without contributions from the following commercial supporters: Kos Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Merck & Co., Merck/Shering-Plough, Inc, Abott Laboratories, AstraZeneca LLP, Atherotech, Inc., and Sankyo Pharma. Thank you for your continued support. Next year's Scientific Forum, "Riding the Wave of the Future: Emerging Novel Paradigms in Lipid Care", will take place at the prestigious Boca Raton Resort and Club, from August 22-24, 2003. This meeting will include more activities and events that clinicians and guests alike are sure to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you for another fantastic meeting next year!
