Certification Programs

Education Index

The NLA spearheaded the development of a certification program for physicians in 2003 by forming the American Board of Clinical Lipidology (ABCL). In 2007, the NLA also achieved its goal of offering a certification program for mid-level providers by forming the Accreditation Council for Clinical Lipidology. Both certifying bodies are now independent, non-profit organizations, separate from the NLA. Yet, the responsibility remains with the NLA through its Continuing Education Program to develop training and self-assessment programs that will allow lipid professionals the opportunity prepare for and successfully achieve certification.

American Board of Clinical Lipidology (ABCL) - Physician Certification Program
The ABCL currently offers physicians the opportunity for certification and appropriate recognition of advanced training and experience managing patients with lipid disorders. The application and certifying process for physicians can be found at www.lipidboard.org. Questions should be referred to ABCL staff at (904) 674-0752.

Accreditation Council for Clinical Lipidology (ACCL) - Allied Health Certification Program
The ACCL is an independent certifying organization that has developed standards and an examination for mid-level providers who manage patients with lipid and other related disorders. Eligibility requirements and exam dates are available online at www.lipidspecialist.org. Questions should be referred to the ACCL staff at (904) 998-0356.
