Accreditation

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the needs of physicians, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, and registered dietitians interested in lipid management.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Integrate established evaluation criteria into practice for the accurate classification of overweight and obese patients with cardiometabolic risk
  • Recognize the importance of lifestyle modification in the reduction of cardiometabolic risk and encourage such changes in their patients
  • Apply more effective physician/patient communication techniques to support patients' efforts at self-management
  • Appropriately utilize pharmaceutical and surgical weight management strategies to assist patients in achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight
  • Implement a team-based approach to the clinical management of overweight and obesity, effectively involving nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, lifestyle educators, and other healthcare professionals

Physicians

The National Lipid Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The National Lipid Association designates this educational activity for a maximum of 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Physician Assistants

NCCPA accepts AMA PRA Category I Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME.

Nurses

AKH Inc. is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's COA.

AKH Inc. designates this educational activity for 3 contact hours (0.3 CEUs). Accreditation applies solely to educational activities and does not imply approval or endorsement of any commercial product by the ANCC–COA. Pharmacists

Dietitians

AKH Inc. is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 3 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program/material. Provider #AN008. The focus of this activity is rated Level 2. Learners may submit evaluations of program/ materials quality to the CDR at  www.cdrnet.org.

Faculty Disclosure Statement

The National Lipid Association and AKH Inc. adhere to ACCME essential areas and policies, and ACPE and ANCC standards regarding industry support of CME/CE. Disclosure of faculty and commercial relationships, if any, are in the syllabus. Identified conflicts are resolved prior to the certification of the activity.

Criteria for Success

Statements of credit will be awarded based on the participant's attendance and submission of the activity evaluation form. A statement of credit will be available upon completion of an online evaluation/claimed credit form at www.lipid.org/cme.

Program Format

This educational activity is composed of didactic lectures with PowerPoint presentations, case studies, and specialty workshops. There will be ample time for questions and answers and attendee participation is highly encouraged.
