NLA Lipid Management Training Course

Accreditation & Objectives

Target Audience

This program is designed for physicians, dietitians, pharmacists, nurses, physician assistants, and other health care professionals who want to enhance or develop the knowledge and skills necessary to provide optimal care to patients with dyslipidemias and related conditions.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the functions and sources of cholesterol and triglycerides, and the role of lipoproteins in atherosclerosis.
  • Identify primary and secondary causes of dyslipidemia.
  • Outline current guidelines on the diagnosis, management and treatment of patients with dyslipidemia.
  • Assess the impact of diet, exercise and behavior modifications on cardiovascular risk and risk factors.
  • Outline the principles of pharmacological management of dyslipidemia, including the effect of each agent on atherosclerotic disease, serum lipids, and lipoprotein metabolism.
  • Describe aggressive therapies for the management of complex lipid disorders, metabolic syndrome and residual risk.
  • Discuss treatment strategies for special populations via case study presentations.

The National Lipid Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The National Lipid Association designates this educational activity for a maximum of 10.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Dietitians

AKH Inc. is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 10.5 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program/material. CDR Accredited Provider #AN008. The focus of this activity is rated Level 2. Learners may submit evaluations of program/materials quality to the CDR at www.cdnet.org.
