The NLA’s Masters in Lipidology course has been completely revised for 2024. The new course format is intended to provide advanced training to Lipid Specialists and other health care professionals in the treatment of complex lipid disorders. Through case discussions, practical application in practice and the various treatment opinions from the expert faculty, participants in the course will leave with confidence in their role as a consultative lipid specialist. Faculty and guest panelists will cover a number of complex disorders in each course offering. Topics and faculty may vary by course date and location. Participants in this course will learn how to recognize and diagnose complex lipid disorders. The course will also describe the various treatment options for each disorder, key clinical trial data for pharmacologic therapies, and how to develop treatment plans.

Masters in Lipidology is offered as a 2-day course prior to NLA meetings (Clinical Lipid Updates [CLU] and Scientific Sessions).

Complex Cases and Consultative Lipidology

Target Audience
This activity is designed to meet the needs of physicians, physician assistants, pharmacists, registered nurses, advance practice registered nurses, nurse practitioners and registered dietitians with expertise in Lipidology looking for further advanced training.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize lipid disorders including (insert Consultative Case Module topics selected) through case discussions.
  • Describe mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy of approved therapies to treat lipid disorders.
  • Evaluate data from key clinical trials of lipid-altering drug therapies.
  • Diagnose complex lipid disorders.
  • Compose a treatment plan for patients with complex lipid disorders.
  • Distinguish roles in a team-based approach to care.
  • Discuss strategies to improve the knowledge, skills or performance of the healthcare team.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 14 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

The National Lipid Association is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The National Lipid Association is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 14 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program/ materials. Completion of this RD/DTR profession-specific of IPCE activity awards CPEUs (One IPCE credit = One CPEU).

Upon receipt of the completed activity evaluation form, transcript information will be available at www.mycpemonitor.net within 4 weeks.
