Journal of Clinical LipidologyEditorial Board Nomination Form Dear Colleague: I have chosen to make an important announcement by sending you a personal letter. It is with distinct pleasure, and much excitement that I announce the decision of the National Lipid Association's Executive Board to launch the Journal of Clinical Lipidiology and retain Elsevier to publish it. This is a milestone decision, one that gives our young organization a highly visible and respected method of communicating with each other as well as with the broader health community on topics dealing with clinical lipidiology. This decision was reached after an extensive study by our Education Committee, to whom we extend our thanks, and a thorough review of proposals from a number of the top journal publishers in the country by the NLA staff. We feel that Elsevier's proposal was the most competitive and in accord with the needs of the NLA. I am also pleased to announce that the National Lipid Association's Executive Board has also appointed the first Editor-in-Chief of our new Journal. The criteria we established for this person follows:
We can think of no one more suitable for this very important position than Dr. Virgil Brown, Professor of Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta, who has graciously accepted our invitation to serve as the Journal's first editor. And now I want your help. We are looking for people who would like to be on our editorial board, review submitted articles, and submit original research or invited commentaries and reviews. Please nominate individuals you feel can help us as well as volunteer yourself. Candidates for the editorial board should represent as many subspecialties of medicine as possible and the diverse population of health professionals who make up our organization—physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and dietitians. Individuals who serve on the editorial board should have a strong track record of publication, be recognized by peers for their scholarship, and have editing, editorial consulting, and/or editorial board experience. Editorial board members will be expected to help locate manuscripts and be available to review and author submissions that address their particular area of expertise. Please send your nominations and volunteer petitions directly to me using this nomination form. Please attach a CV of the nominated individual or yourself. If you've been looking to have your work published, or anticipate completing a research project in the coming months, we hope you will consider submitting it to the Journal of Clinical Lipidology first. We expect to have the first issue out in the first or second quarter of 2007 and plan on an every other month publication schedule. The topics addressed by the Journal will be diverse, but with a focus on clinical lipidology. We'll want articles that explore lipidology as it is practiced in the treatment setting, recent developments in pharmacological research, analyses of treatment benefit, implementation of novel treatment and lifestyle programs, and similar material of interest to the practitioner. While preference will be given to material of immediate practical concern, we'll also want to explore the science that underpins lipidology so that evidence-based approaches to reducing cardiovascular and coronary heart disease can be made immediately available to our readers. We'll have sections to address pioneering studies and the clinicians who conduct them, adherence to therapy, case studies, ethical standards and conduct, professional guidance such as ATP and NCEP, editorial commentary, letters from readers, National Lipid Association (NLA) news and upcoming event information, as well as abstracts from the NLA annual scientific sessions and the scientific forums held by its chapters, when appropriate. For the first year of publication, the NLA will offer the Journal at the cost of current membership to give you an opportunity to evaluate the publication first hand. Later, we will transition our dues structure to include a discounted subscription fee for the Journal. This price will be reasonable (less than $50 per annum). This is an exciting development for our association, and it should lead to growth and greater awareness of our work. It is equally important that a man of the credentials of Dr. Brown to be our first editor of the Journal of Clinical Lipidology. Our Journal will benefit the NLA, but just as importantly, it will benefit its readers and help its authors reach out to the entire medical community. We look forward to your support and input on this critically important project for our association. Sincerely, James M. McKenney, PharmD Editorial Board Nomination Form
