Implications for Clinical Practice

Continue to View Program

The American Heart Association (AHA) is the premier US scientific conference for the dissemination of results from clinical trials that can impact the management of cardiovascular risk. The research presented at the conference features insight into the potential of new approaches to lipid management and the benefits of lipid management on the progression of atherosclerosis and to overall cardiovascular health.

The National Lipid Association presents important research highlights from the 2009 AHA Scientific Sessions that impact your practice. Recorded onsite at theHeart.org studios in Orlando, FL, join Dr. Michael Davidson for a targeted discussion with a distinguished faculty panel, including: Dr. Christie Ballantyne, Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at Baylor College of Medicine; Dr. Vera Bittner, Section Head of Preventive Cardiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and President of the National Lipid Association; and Dr. Roger Blumenthal, Director of the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease.

LIPID INSIGHTS FROM AHA 2009

Release date: November 20, 2009
Expiration date: November 20, 2010
Format: Video Webcast

The pharmacologic armamentarium available to mitigate cardiovascular (CV) risk continues to grow, as do the options for assessing the impact of pharmacologic interventions. Dr. Michael Davidson leads a discussion on select research presented at the 2009 American Heart Association Scientific Sessions that advances our knowledge regarding the clinical utility of various therapeutic strategies to improve lipid profiles, slow the progression of atherosclerosis, and mitigate global CV risk. Joining him are Drs. Christie Ballantyne, Vera Bittner, and Roger Blumenthal.

PURPOSE/GOAL
This activity will provide clinicians with education regarding recent clinical research impacting treatment rationales for the dyslipidemia patient.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for physicians, including lipidologists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, family/primary care practitioners, as well as other healthcare professionals interested in the prevention of CV disease.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be better able to:

  • Review the scientific research highlights relating to lipid management and preventive cardiology
  • Critically appraise the study design, implementation, and results from important clinical trials impacting the field of lipidology
  • Determine the clinical relevance of novel research relating to dyslipidemia and how best to incorporate this into current treatment decisions
