The International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS), incorporated in 1979, promotes, at an international level, the advancement of science, research, and teaching in the field of atherosclerosis. The IAS endeavors to achieve these objectives by promoting the exchange of existing knowledge; encouraging new research ventures and interdisciplinary approaches; establishing visiting fellowships for young investigators; fostering the dissemination of knowledge by organizing international symposia, workshops, courses, and meetings; and through the association with a scientific journal. Membership is open to active researchers who join one of the 58 IAS national or regional constituent societies or who join as individual members from countries without national affiliated society.

Cholesterol Clinic

European Society of Cardiology
The goals of the ESC were clearly defined in the original statutes: "to foster the development of cardiology, to further scientific exchanges, to encourage personal contacts and to establish standards of training for cardiologists and those who work in the field of cardiovascular disease." The European Society of Cardiology has now broadened its goals and is "dedicated to improving the quality of life of the European population by reducing the impact of cardiovascular disease".

Familial Hypercholesterolemia - Inherited High Cholesterol Project
MEDPED stands for Make Early Diagnosis to Prevent Early Deaths. It is a research project and a nonprofit organization funded to register and help treat people with inherited cholesterol disorders, such as Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH). The goal is to find persons with FH that are either undiagnosed or inadequately treated and help treat them by following the guidelines set by the National Cholesterol Education Guidelines (NCEP), making a proper diagnosis and finding the right treatment.
