Program Objectives
Target Audience
This activity is designed to meet the needs of physicians, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, nurse practitioners, and registered dietitians interested in lipid management.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss epidemiologic and statistical evidence related to cardiovascular disease risk and the translation of current research into effective treatment approaches for CVD prevention.
- Compare and contrast the effectiveness of available risk assessment instruments and markers in predicting CV risk in the intermediate risk population.
- Assess the impact of diet, weight reduction, exercise and behavior modifications on cardiovascular risk factors and encourage such changes in patient behavior.
- Implement aggressive therapies for the management of dyslipidemia to ensure that at-risk patients meet all of their target lipid levels.
- Clinically manage challenging cases, including patients experiencing statin intolerance or adverse events associated with lipid-altering drugs.
- Apply effective strategies to encourage patient adherence to therapy.
- Incorporate appropriate risk assessment and treatment strategies in special risk populations.
