The theme of the HEART UK 2011 conference will be on Prevention - building partnerships to tackle the cholesterol and lipid problems underlying major chronic diseases, in particular of CVD and diabetes. The role of various lipid disorders, involving LDL, HDL and triglycerides in chronic diseases and their management will be reviewed and intervention strategies in disease prevention will be discussed by keynote lectures from leading national and international experts.

The program, which is equally suited to clinicians in both primary and secondary care and scientists alike, will combine plenary sessions, clinical presentations, interactive sessions, panel discussions and case studies. ?

A key strategy for addressing heart disease and stroke is to educate the public and healthcare practitioners about the importance of prevention. When healthcare providers perform consistent risk factor assessments, more patients can be properly diagnosed and medically managed to prevent cardiovascular disease. Both primary and secondary prevention, as well as new developments in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease, need to be addressed.
