
A major change in global demographics is underway, and will intensify over the next generation, there is evidence for an aging population in almost all developed countries as well as those undergoing major developement. Health problems accompanying this change include Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, frailty, and of course coronary heart disease. Aging is a risk factor, which while not new, may represent new cholesterol in terms of research into its many manifestations and concerted efforts to improve its theraputic interventions, as well as its long term evolution in clinical medicine toward effective approaches.
