The statin plus niacin treatment costs $100 a year if we use generic statin plus OTC niacin.
It's important to start off with low dose statin and then add 1,000 mg niacin to improve compliance.
Niacin gets lower LDL-C than doubling the statin dose. It is important to avoid the muscle pain of higher dose statin.
1,000 mg of niacin gets the best bang for the buck with HDL-C. At this dose there is little problem with the liver and glucose intolerance.
I have used endur-acin as the wax matrix bid with meals rarely causes flushing. It is important not to use a product that the patient will not comply with. I have less experience with Slo-niacin.
