There are many activities ongoing that will benefit not only our members and the field of clinical lipidology but also public health.  A major milestone is the newly published biomarkers paper that was published in the September issue of the Journal of Clinical Lipidology (Clinical Utility of Inflammatory Markers and Advanced Lipoprotein Testing: Advice from an Expert Panel of Lipid Specialists. Vol. 5:338-367).  Michael H. Davidson (Chair), Christie M. Ballantyne (Co-Chair), and Terry A. Jacobson (Co-Chair) led the 17-member writing team.  The panel evaluated the use of selected biomarkers [C-reactive protein, lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2, apolipoprotein B, LDL particle concentration, lipoprotein(a), and LDL and HDL subfractions] to improve risk assessment, or to adjust therapy. There are many committee activities ongoing, two of which are the Consumer Affairs Committee (CAC; chaired by Jerome Cohen) including the the Patient Adherence Subcommittee (of the CAC) led by David Nash and the Practice Management Committee, co-chaired by Ralph La Forge and Kaye-Eileen Willard.  The NLA Leadership encourages you to actively participate in our dynamic organization.  Please consider supporting the Foundation of the National Lipid Association.  Your gift will help further our progress in improving public awareness of lipid disorders.  To donate, please visit www.lipidfoundation.org/donate for information about how to give to the Foundation.  Lastly, please have a very Happy Holiday Season.
