I was walking around the Mall of America and spotted a Sponge Bob statue. I thought that was a good icon for the reduced obese. People who have lost 10% of their weight eventually develop the Sponge Bob Syndrome. They soak up calories like a sponge.
The concept of the reduced obese has not been taught or accepted into the paradigm of obesity. We continue to blame the obese for their weight as simply calories in vs. calories out.
Similar to the problem of teaching non-HDL cholesterol, the reduced obese is a terrible term.
I propose we teach the concept of the "reduced obese" as the Sponge Bob syndrome.
I propose we teach the concept of non-HDL cholesterol as The Tubby Factor.
