The Role of Omega-3's in Cardiovascular Disease

The Role of Omega-3's in Cardiovascular Disease

Schedule: On Demand (The original live program aired on Tuesday, November 27, 2012)

Program Overview:
What is the role of omega-3 fatty acids in preventing cardiovascular disease? A decade ago the AHA endorsed their use in secondary prevention, but several recent trials have shown no benefit in this setting. A recent meta-analysis, which received widespread media attention, concluded that omega-3 supplementation does not reduce the risk for fatal or non-fatal CV events. Have we over stated the potential benefits derived from taking omega-3 fatty acids? Is it time to pull this therapy from the prevention armamentarium?
