From the MWLA President: Looking towards the Future of Lipid Management

The theme of the current issue of LipidSpin is, “New Approaches for Managing Atherogenic Particles.” We are in the midst of a very exciting and interesting time to be treating atherogenic particles. Statins have revolutionized the care of patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and dyslipidemia. The more that our field evolves, in large part due to efforts of organizations like the NLA, the more that we understand what is driving CV risk. We are also so fortunate to be practicing at a time when we have many new tools in our arsenal to manage atherogenic particles.

This issue of LipidSpin has been a pleasure to help put together as we get to highlight some of the wonderful talent of the MWLA and the PLA and showcase some of the advances in our understanding and management of dyslipidemia. This edition has great insights into new medications, lifestyle factors, and even outside the box issues that we as clinical lipid specialists deal with. This timely edition also correlates nicely with topics presented at the Spring CLU in San Diego. Hopefully everyone learns something new and practical from our wonderful contributors.

As a clinical lipid specialist who has gotten so much from the NLA, it has been a privilege to get to give back in a small way. Thank you to the members of the MWLA. I feel that this process has made me closer to many of you. I appreciate how eager and amenable so many of you were to contribute. It has been a great experience collaborating with PLA president, Jessica Durham. Thank you to Jessica and all of the PLA members that contributed to the planning and substance of this edition. I am confident that you will enjoy this edition of LipidSpin. I am hoping to see all of you in-person at an upcoming meeting.
