Letter from the PLA President: Small Discoveries Make Big Victories

Lipid Management in Specific Populations, the theme for this edition of LipidSpin, is a culmination of what Dr. Chima Nwizu, SWLA President, and I believe moves our organization forward. The National Lipid Association realizes the importance of understanding, investigating, and advocating treatment options for a variety of conditions; including those that afflict a limited population. Every article section in this edition may not apply to all your patients, but for the specific population where the information does apply, our enhanced ability to attend to their needs means the world. As clinicians, it is our duty to identify patients who come from all walks of life, meet them where they are, and treat them with the valuable skills the NLA allows us to develop regarding nuanced care. We are thankful for the expertise shared by our esteemed contributors of this LipidSpin. I am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate on this edition and could not have done it alone, without Chima’s passion and enthusiasm.

I feel very honored to serve as President of the Pacific Lipid Association and to connect with so many who are making a real difference in their respective communities and specialties. The PLA chapter, like the NLA, is a diverse membership united in our common passion for lipidology and the prevention of ASCVD. We have highlighted many of our members’ activities and achievements in this issue. I am so grateful to NLA, an organization where we can learn from each other, our committees, and within our communities. It is such a privilege to work with a group of like-minded individuals. I would like to encourage those members who want to be more involved to reach out to chapter and national leaders to find ways in which you can contribute.

I am looking forward to 2024 - 2025 and the new activities and projects we are planning when Michael Wilkinson, MD, FNLA takes the reins of PLA.

Thank you for the opportunity to share with you. I hope you enjoy this LipidSpin as much as we have enjoyed preparing it.
