From the NLA President: Charging Ahead

Hello fellow lipid lovers!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and is looking forward to a productive and prosperous 2024. The new year brings many exciting new initiatives and projects over the coming months, including but not limited to:

  • SIX new NLA manuscripts are in the pipeline and will be published by summer of 2024.
  • Annual Scientific Sessions will be held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada, May 30 - June 2, 2024. You won’t want to miss this one. The agenda is filled with engaging topics such as clinical trial developments, drug interactions with lipid lowering medications, and much more.   • TWO new courses will be offered for the first time on Wednesday, May 29 as a preconference course to the Las Vegas Annual Scientific Sessions: 
    • 1. New, revamped Masters course with fresh educational sessions. Expect to see an agenda dedicated to consultative approaches to the management of complex disorders. The new format emphasizes expert discussion with audience interaction through case presentations. This course will feature unique, expert faculty describing various treatment options, key clinical trial data and pharmacologic therapies. Participants can expect to learn how to recognize and diagnose complex disorders. For information and registration, visit: lipid.org/education/courses/masters.
    • 2. New, Mastering Triglycerides Science Course will cover triglyceride disorders, targets of therapy, and existing and novel triglyceride-lowering therapies. Participants will improve their severe hypertriglyceridemia knowledge and competence, expand the depth of their understanding of lipid science, and help their patients make informed decisions about lipid therapies to reduce the risk of extreme complications related to severe hypertriglyceridemia.   • Fall Clinical Lipid Update will be held at the Omni Dallas Hotel in Dallas, Texas, September 6 - 8, 2024. Join us for a weekend of cutting-edge content in the Lone Star state! View the agenda and register at lipid.org/meetings/fallclu
  • The newly formed APP membership committee has had several gatherings and is advocating to boost membership, particularly focusing on advanced practice nurses, clinical nurse specialists, physician assistants, and pharmacists.
  • NLA has been granted funds for more Lipid Panel and Lp(a) testing, and NLA is targeting family practice meetings to raise awareness and increase testing.
  • The Lipid Panel, a monthly CME/CE Accredited series hosted live on the last Tuesday of each month has a strong attendance and is consistently growing in popularity. To catch the next one, visit: lipid.org/thelipidpanel.
  • NLA’s president-elect, Christie Ballantyne, MD, FNLA is spearheading the pursuit of lipid specialist/lipidology taxonomy code with CMS.

I am grateful to each one of you for your support of our organization. The NLA could not be what it is today without the work you put in with us and your respective care and research centers. I have truly enjoyed my time as president and look forward to what’s in store for the remainder of my presidency.
