North American Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome (NAFCS) Scoring Tools

The North American Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome (NAFCS) Scoring Tool, based on the publication by Hegele et al. titled “Development and validation of clinical criteria to identify familial chylomicronemia syndrome (FCS) in North America” may be helpful to:

  • Distinguish FCS from multifactorial chylomicronimia syndrome (MCS), another genetic form of severe hypertriglyceridemia.
  • Confer a clinical diagnosis of FCS in the event of an indeterminate genetic test or to identify appropriate candidates for genetic testing.

The publication utilized the RAND/UCLA modified Delphi process. This information and tool are intended as educational information for healthcare professionals and does not replace a healthcare professional’s judgment or clinical diagnosis.
