Inter-Professional Continuing Education (ICE) Committee

The Inter-Professional Continuing Education (ICE) Committee, formerly Continuing Medical Education (CME) Committee, oversees the NLA's overall program of Professional Development and Continuing Medical Education consistent with guidelines established by the Accreditation Council for Medical Education (ACCME), the American Medical Association (AMA) and other professional organizations designated to provide continuing education credit for allied health professionals.

NLA Continuing Education Mission

The mission of the ICE Committee is to ensure compliance with guidelines established by the Accreditation Council for Medical Education (ACCME), Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Structure

The ICE Committee includes a Chair and up to twenty (20) members representing each regional Chapter. Members should also represent each discipline of NLA including physicians representing family practice, osteopathy, internal medicine along with allied health disciplines to include nurses, pharmacists and dietitians.

Term

Two (2) years appointed annually (May) by NLA President and Board of Directors.

Charges

  1. Designate continuing education activities for AMA Category 1 PRA Credit.
  2. Coordinate planner and faculty conflict of interest resolution.
  3. Conduct content validation of educational activities to ensure the fair balance of all NLA continuing education activities.
  4. Provide a liaison to the Education Department and the Scientific Meetings Committee for participation in planning efforts of educational activities.
  5. Maintain policies and procedures for Continuing Education consistent with guidelines established by the Accreditation Council for Medical Education (ACCME), Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
