NLA Announces Peter H. Jones, MD, FNLA as Chief Science Officer

The National Lipid Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter H. Jones, MD, FNLA as its first-ever Chief Science Officer (CSO). In this position, Dr. Jones will monitor developments in science, research and clinical trials, while supporting the overall mission of the organization internally and externally as a representative of the NLA. The Chief Science Officer will stay updated on technological advances and health care trends as they relate to lipidology, allowing him to advise the NLA board and staff in emerging scientific matters and therapies.

Peter Howard Jones, MD, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the newly created Chief Science Officer position of the NLA. He is an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Section of Atherosclerosis and Lipid Research at the Baylor College of Medicine. He also serves as co-director of the Lipid Metabolism and Atherosclerosis Clinic, and as the Medical Director for Weight Management Center for The Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Jones received his BS in chemistry in 1974 at Washington and Lee University, where he was a summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa student.  He completed his MD at the Baylor College of Medicine in 1977 as the Micheal E. DeBakey Scholar.  He completed his internal medicine residency at Baylor, and is board certified in internal medicine and clinical lipidology.  He is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the National Lipid Association. He is an NLA board member, served as its secretary, and as President (2005-2006), and is a board member of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology.

He has served in a number of academic, scientific and community committees and has published more than 160 clinical abstracts, articles, and chapters in textbooks. He is on the editorial board of Future Lipidology and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Lipidology.
