The National Lipid Association and the Foundation are thankful once again for another successful year of meetings and fundraising. But we still have much work to do.
The Foundation hosted the NLA’s 15th Anniversary Celebration Gala this past May in conjunction with the NLA Annual Scientific Sessions in Philadelphia to celebrate the ongoing achievements of both organizations, while benefiting the Foundation. The night included the first annual Clinician/Educator Award honoring an NLA member who demonstrates continued excellence in clinical care of patients with lipid disorders and/or excellence in the field of clinical lipidology.
I was honored to be selected by my peers to receive the award this year, and I am looking forward to seeing the amazing individuals who will be honored in the future.
If you are onsite at the Fall CLU in Indianapolis, make sure to purchase a ticket to the Foundation Event to get down with Foundation Board Member, Dr. Alan Brown and his band, This End Up, on August 12 from 7:00–9:00 p.m. Support the Foundation while enjoying today’s most popular songs, delicious appetizers and tasty drinks with colleagues and friends. After a full day of sessions, what better way to unwind!
In addition, I am extremely pleased to report that the Foundation continues to grow through continued development of outreach campaigns and patient materials. As the charitable arm of the NLA, the Foundation has revised its mission and vision to emphasize our dedication to improving the welfare of patients and families affected by cholesterol and triglyceride problems. We are excited to share with you this new direction for the Foundation, and all the good things to come.
As part of the new Foundation focus, we have launched the RADAR (RAre Disease AwaReness) Campaign as a national patient outreach program providingf resources and tools for both healthcare professionals and patients to assist in identifying and managing rare lipid disorders. An integral part of the campaign is the FCS cookbook, which includes a variety of delicious recipe options designed specifically for individuals managing FCS. The campaign is supported by the fresh look of learnyourlipids.com, designed to make the valuable campaign tools easy to access and user friendly.
As we move ahead, we will have many opportunities for you to support and get involved with the Foundation, especially as we turn our focus to increased pediatric and family education and resources. I encourage you to take a few moments to think about your talents and how you can help through volunteering, attending a benefit, or making a donation.
Thank you for your support. Together, we continue to do great things for our patients.
