Chapter Update: A Year of Success

The Midwest Lipid Association is 510 members strong and represents Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Nebraska. We are pleased to have David R. Neff, DO, FNLA, serving as our President this year. We have an active and diverse group and Sanford A. Carimi, MD, FNLA, our Immediate Past President, took time at our February meeting to acknowledge the great MWLA representation on national level projects. Ann M. Liebeskind, MD, FNLA, received special accolades for being part of the work restructuring the Foundations of Lipidology course (formerly Lipid Academy) in addition to her outstanding clinical efforts in FH treatment for all ages.

The MWLA had a busy year. We hosted the fall 2017 Clinical Lipid Update last August in Indianapolis and the Spring Clinical Lipid Update along with the Southwest Lipid Association in San Antonio in February. Both meetings were a great success brining in many distinguished speakers on a wide array of topics. Immediately after, we turned our attention to this iteration of LipidSpin. We are very fortunate to have LipidSpin co-editor, Kaye-Eileen Willard, MD, FNLA, among our board membership.

Reaching out to new and potential members of the National Lipid Association is an area of interest for the MWLA. We have sponsored scholarships for meeting attendance and have been discussing ways to reach out to potential new members. We are excited to have some newer members as authors in this LipidSpin. Additionally, we have members who do lipid journal clubs and case discussions; we are looking to help increase this in more areas.

We would like to thank all our members for their support and dedication to patient care. We encourage all members of the NLA to reach out to their colleagues and bring more providers into the field of lipidology.
