SELA Chapter Update: SELA Not Slowing Down Despite Ongoing Pandemic

Despite the challenges of the ongoing pandemic, SELA continues to stay active by supporting various initiatives that will provide useful resources to our members. SELA is supporting the Foundation of the NLA by providing funds to translate numerous patient handouts on various topics, including triglycerides and hearthealthy grocery shopping. Understanding we take care of patients who come from all over the world, these translations will expand the Foundation’s ability to translate patient handouts to languages beyond Spanish. Furthermore, SELA made a general donation to the Foundation to allow them to allocate funds to programs and projects that they believe would be most helpful for patients.

Additionally, SELA was excited to collaborate with the VCU Pauley Heart Complex Lipid Clinic to support an initiative to create a 10-part webinar series on the Mediterranean Diet for patients. This webinar series will be immensely helpful to ensure patients have the appropriate knowledge to follow an evidence-based, heart-healthy dietary pattern. The videos will be designed and produced by physicians, registered dietitians, and dietetic interns. Each video will include various links to resources including culinary demonstrations, handouts, and more. It will be exciting to hear how this program is going over the next year.

SELA is also working hard to develop creative ways to continue engaging our members and bring in new members. I urge all SELA members to look around at your own institution to help identify at least one individual you can approach about NLA membership. Be sure to share how NLA has impacted you and your career. Also, please feel free to reach out to SELA leadership if you have ideas on how we can continue to keep SELA vibrant.

Lastly, we are excited for the year ahead and are also beginning our planning for the Fall 2021 issue of LipidSpin. Once again, SELA is fortunate to partner with NELA for this issue. For now, stay tuned for upcoming opportunities to contribute and stay safe.
