A Message from the President of the Southwest Lipid Association
It is a privilege to be elected as President of the Southwest Chapter of the National Lipid Association for the upcoming year. I am looking forward to working closely with the brilliant minds of our organization and a strong and motivated board of directors that comprise our leadership. I take pride in the NLA for diversity with a wide array of professionals, including physicians, nurses and advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, and dieticians all working toward the common goal of lessening the burden of vascular disease associated with lipid disorders at all ages of our population.
I applaud my predecessors in their contribution to the growth to where we are today. We had a successful year under the leadership of Dr. Robert Wild. I anticipate continuing that momentum in moving forward with many great and inspiring activities currently in the works including a rural health project and an astounding Clinical Lipid Update in Maui. I see us expanding to reach more members of the health care team driven by similar goals of our organization.
I am anticipating our Maui Clinical Lipid Update in March 2014, co-sponsored by the Pacific Lipid Association, to include scientific rigor coupled with international themes. From considerations in special population to dietary patterns, evolutionary topics and cutting edge science, we strive to focus on practical application useful to our day-to-day patient interactions.
Outside of our chapter meeting, we have much work to do. We have numerous committees that need your insight and contribution. Eloquently stated by Sheryl Sandberg, “no one accomplishes anything alone… A well-functioning group is stronger than an individual” and together we will continue to grow. I encourage you to contact me with any feedback or questions. It is a pleasure to work with each and every one of you.
