The National Lipid Association recently convened an Expert Panel to draft a document that would serve as guidance to clinicians for treating patients with dyslipidemia. Our foremost goal was to harmonize guidelines among what has been presented in the past by the ATP panel, the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology Guidelines, and those also released in 2013 by the International Atherosclerosis Society. Our panel has completed a draft document titled “The National Lipid Association Recommendations for Patient-Centered Management of Dyslipidemia.” in which we emphasize the importance of understanding targets of treatment and goals for patients.
