The NLA Addresses the Safety of Statins and Provides Recommendations to Clinicians and Patients

Recently the National Lipid Association (NLA) convened an Expert Panel on Statin Safety to examine various aspects of statin therapy and to determine its safety, patient tolerance and effectiveness. Results of the symposium findings are published this month in the Journal of Clinical Lipidology, addressing six specific statin-related safety issues including the effects of statins on: cognition, diabetes risk, liver function, muscle symptoms, interactions with other drugs, and statin intolerance.
