Renowned Lipid Expert Passes Away at 74
Peter O. Kwiterovich Jr., MD, professor emeritus at Johns Hopkins and a member of the Southeast Chapter of the National Lipid Association (NLA) died Friday, Aug. 15 of prostate cancer.
As a pioneer in the world of lipid disorders and research, Dr. Kwiterovich was a leading advocate for cholesterol screening in children and founded the Johns Hopkins Lipid Clinic in 1972.
Prior to his retirement this year, Dr. Kwiterovich was the chief of the Lipid Research and Atherosclerosis Division, director of the Johns Hopkins Lipid Clinic, and professor of pediatrics and medicine at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
George Dover, MD, pediatrician-in-chief at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and director of the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center called Dr. Kwiterovich a “true giant in the field of cardiovascular disease.”
