SELA Chapter Update: SELA Stays Productive During Unpredictable Year

This year, SELA was excited to collaborate with the Foundation of the NLA to provide financial support to Health First Community Health Center to conduct LDL-C, Triglyceride, and A1C screenings in rural and un/underinsured populations in Kentucky. Patients were provided with educational resources and those who presented with elevated levels received counseling from the onsite clinician working with the phlebotomist. Due to COVID-19, all screenings are currently on hold until it is safe to resume.

SELA members have contributed to numerous publications throughout the year, including NLA’s most recent Scientific Statement on Genetic Testing in Dyslipidemia. SELA members also continue to value virtual lipid clubs and are finding ways to hold these meeting virtually to stay connected within their regions. Finally, the Chapter was excited to have participated in the Membership Recruitment Competition and congratulate the NELA Chapter on winning the competition.

One of our main goals moving forward is to translate NLA and Foundation of the NLA tear sheets and infographics into other languages so they can reach a broader audience. Additionally, we are planning initiatives to encourage members in our Chapter to take the NLA’s SelfAssessment Program which evaluates clinical knowledge of the core curriculum in clinical lipidology and offers challenging problem-solving skills in the diagnosis and management of patients with dyslipidemia.

We look forward to a busy and productive winter and hope you our members continue to stay safe.
